Christmas Wishes

Lyrics by Kim Brownlee
Music by the Politician and Kim Brownlee

Dad brought the boxes down from the attic
Mom helped us decorate the tree
On Christmas Eve, after caroling
We’d sing Silent Night as a family as we
Hung an old tin foil star they made
on top of our cotton wrapped Christmas tree
I remember we’d all wake up so eager to see
the things that Santa left under the tree
But Dad would read the story of Jesus first
To remind us that Christmas is to celebrate His birth

It’s the time of year that most everyone
Reminisces good times with their loved ones
But for others it’s a time of loneliness
When they long for all the things they miss
So let’s open our hearts and minds
and try to understand their cries
So we help each other have a Merry Christmas
Cuz everyone deserves a Merry Christmas

Mom and Dad’s dreams were humble ones
All they wanted was a log cabin for a home
But on Thanksgiving 1990 Mom said
I’m going home to see my Father
And she closed her eyes for the last time
Christmas of '97 was Dad's story
Now they’re singing Silent Night
together in their log cabin in Glory

It’s the time of year that most everyone
Reminisces good times with their loved ones
But for others, it’s a time of loneliness
When they long for all the things they miss
So let’s open our hearts and minds
and try to understand our cries
So we can help each other have a Merry Christmas
Cuz everyone deserves a Merry Christmas

Now here’s something to think about this Christmas
When you’re making out your wish list, you could pray

For the little boy whose only wish for under the tree
It’s to not be a part of a broken family
For those who have lost a loved one
And they wish weren’t feeling so alone
For the people living out on the cold dark street
Whose only wish is for somewhere warm to sleep
For the girl who wants her Dad to stop drinking
And she really wants him to stop hitting

And for those looking for ribbons bows and mistletoe
There’s one important thing that we should know;
The only thing of value under the tree
Is the baby who was born to be the King who would set us free
Baby Jesus
That’s why we celebrate Christmas
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to you
